We support a city ordinance that would do the following to protect Weld County youth from tobacco and nicotine use and prevent illegal sale of nicotine products to minors:
- Require all retailers who sell tobacco and nicotine products to have a license;
- Put all tobacco and nicotine products behind the counter;
- Ensure all clerks who sell nicotine products are at least 18, the legal age for tobacco use;
- Not allow minors in tobacco-only stores;
- Suspend or revoke the license of those who repeatedly sell to minors;
- Conduct frequent checks to ensure stores are not selling to youth.
Weld county youth stood up for local control of tobacco and testified on HB15-1257
